Instead, this particular vendor had a small collection of unusual material and carvings that immediately made Niome and I stop.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFrom that one little stall came our Tanzanian Rainbow Sunstone and Black Moonstone Dragon Turtle, our incredibly flashy Blue Moonstone Dragon Turtle, and finally, this Auralite 23 Pixiu carved from material originating in Canada.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThree completely different pieces, and somehow all three came home with us. 😂\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWhat first caught our attention with this Pixiu was the stone itself. The carving moves through rich reddish brown, burgundy, smoky purple and golden translucent areas, with the changing natural colour of the material becoming part of the character of the carving.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHold it towards a stronger light and another side of the piece appears. Sections become beautifully translucent, revealing flashes of violet, plum, warm amber and golden yellow from within. Rather than being one uniform colour, the piece changes considerably depending on the direction of the light.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe carving has also been worked around those natural variations rather beautifully.
