Natural mustard, honey, olive green, charcoal and reddish-brown tones can appear alongside banding, orbicular formations and contrasting mineral patterns, giving every Hubei Agate carving a distinctly individual appearance.

This hand carved Hubei Agate teapot showcases that natural variation through an intricate coiled body, floral detailing, shaped handle and spout, and a contrasting removable Agate lid. The hollowed opening and carefully finished details make the piece especially interesting as a decorative stone carving and collector object. Teapots also have a strong connection with Chinese tea culture, where tea has long been associated with hospitality, friendship, contemplation and sharing time with others. A wonderfully unusual piece for collectors of Hubei Agate, Chinese stone carvings and decorative teapots. 🫖🤎✨

⚖️ Weight: 30gms

📏 Size: 2.3cm x 3.5cm x 5cm

🌎 Source: Hubei, China

🔮 Agate: The Tapestry Stone of Universal Harmony

🤍 All Chakras

Sometimes buying crystals is very sensible. You look at the mineral, the quality, the rarity, the price and make a perfectly rational decision.

And sometimes you spend what feels like hours questioning whether you have suddenly become someone who collects crystal teapots. 🤣

I loved these the moment I saw them. The funny part is that I don’t really drink tea. But there was something about the carving that I simply could not stop looking at. I picked them up several times, put them back down, wandered around the vendor’s table, picked them up again, and Niome and I proceeded to contemplate our first crystal teapot purchase for far longer than any reasonable person probably should.

We were at this particular vendor for hours, despite it not being a very large table. It was one of those wonderful examples of quality over quantity, where you slow down and really look at what is in front of you.

Eventually we stopped questioning our new-found teapot beliefs and remembered that we are collectors of beautiful things ourselves, not only crystals. These felt right. So here they are. 😂

Each teapot has been beautifully hand carved from Hubei Agate, with the natural variations within the stone becoming part of the design rather than something the carver has tried to disguise. Warm mustard and honey tones move into olive green, deep charcoal and rich reddish brown, giving each carving its own completely individual appearance.

The detail is what really caught us. The body has been formed into an intricate coiled design, with each individual section carefully defined. Small floral details decorate the sides, while the handle, spout and other features have all been worked directly into the stone.

But my favourite detail has to be the lid.

Rather than simply placing a plain cap over the opening, the removable lid has been carved from contrasting reddish Hubei Agate and decorated with its own intricate design. It fits neatly into the centre of the teapot and can be completely removed, revealing the hollowed opening beneath. Even when the lid is removed, the carving around the opening remains beautifully finished.

Hubei Agate is particularly interesting for the incredible variety that can occur within a single piece. Its colours, banding, orbicular formations and contrasting mineral patterns can change dramatically over very small areas, and this makes it such an expressive material for detailed carving. In these teapots, the carver has allowed those natural changes to become part of the artwork.

The teapot itself also carries a lovely cultural connection. Tea has been deeply woven into Chinese life for centuries, associated with hospitality, friendship, contemplation and the simple act of sharing time with others. As a carved object, a teapot can therefore represent welcome, connection and abundance.

These are exactly the sort of pieces we hoped to discover while buying in China.
