Carved from ancient seabed formations, this Septarian egg displays the extraordinary growth of yellow calcite druzy “teeth” a striking variation that sets it apart from the darker Septarian most collectors know.

Formed between 50–70 million years ago, Septarian began as sedimentary nodules of fossilised marine life, clay, and limestone. As the stone developed, mineral-rich waters entered its cavities, creating those familiar septa (cracks or veins). In most cases, silica and aragonite dominated, giving Septarian its deep brown and grey tones with dark druzy interiors.

In this rare variation, however, calcite became the dominant mineral. Over millions of years, calcium carbonate slowly filled the open cavities, crystallising into golden calcite formations that grew upward like natural teeth. These crystalline “ridges” are the visual signature of high-calcite Septarian and evidence of an environment where mineral replacement occurred under warmer conditions and higher calcium saturation.

Polished into an egg shape, this piece symbolises creation and geological transformation. The glowing yellow calcite contrasts beautifully against the earthy aragonite matrix, giving a sense of balance between light and structure.
