Rhodonite is a manganese silicate mineral, recognised for its natural combination of rose pink tones woven with black manganese oxide veining. The pink comes from manganese within the crystal structure itself, while the darker veins form along fractures and structural shifts during growth. This interplay between colour and matrix gives Rhodonite its signature depth and character.

With a Mohs hardness of approximately 5.5 to 6.5, Rhodonite is durable enough for detailed carving while still allowing the natural veining to remain bold and expressive. In skull form, the contrast between pink body colour and black matrix accentuates the contours of the brow, jawline and cheek structure. The patterning moves across the surface in organic lines rather than uniform patches, meaning no two carvings are ever identical.
