Formed over 50–70 million years ago, this dark druzy Septarian egg is a geological wonder that reveals the quieter, moodier side of this ancient stone. Unlike the yellow calcite-dominant variation, these specimens developed under different mineral conditions where silica and aragonite became the prevailing elements during fossilisation.

As mineral-rich seawater moved through the sediment, the original cavities remained partly open, allowing microscopic quartz crystals (druzy) to form along the internal surfaces. Over millions of years, these crystals grew into a fine, sparkling texture, giving the interior its distinctive dark, glittering depth. The surrounding matrix, a blend of aragonite, baryte, limestone, and fossilised clay provides a dramatic contrast, highlighting the crystalline voids and natural patterns within the stone.

The darker colouring reflects a higher concentration of silica and iron oxides, which produce the deep greys, browns, and black tones. The result is a specimen with strong contrast and mineral texture and a look that feels both ancient and refined.
