Blue Lace Agate is a banded variety of chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of Quartz. Its characteristic lace-like appearance develops through successive layers of silica deposited during formation, creating fine bands, curves and occasionally more intricate patterns throughout the stone.

It is the banding that gives these palmstones so much individuality. Some display fine, closely packed lines, while others have broader areas of soft blue interrupted by white and translucent layers. Turn them over and another completely different pattern can often be discovered.
