Ferruginous Quartz is a fascinating example of how trace minerals can transform the appearance of quartz during its growth. This exceptional Brazilian specimen displays a dense cluster of beautifully terminated crystals, each naturally coloured by iron rich inclusions that have produced striking shades of deep red, burnt sienna and earthy copper.

The crystal formation immediately draws the eye. Larger, sharply formed points emerge confidently from a landscape of smaller intergrown crystals, creating impressive depth and texture across the face of the specimen. Every angle reveals another collection of perfectly developed terminations, rewarding close inspection with an abundance of intricate detail.

Unlike quartz where iron simply coats the surface, ferruginous quartz develops its distinctive colour as iron becomes incorporated during crystal growth. The result is a rich, natural colour that appears integral to each crystal, producing remarkable consistency throughout the specimen while allowing the lustre of the quartz to remain beautifully preserved.

Such delicate specimens and when you think about first the care within the handling that’s gone into first mining them, to then shipping them all around the world, my hat goes off to them.

Here are a few things to consider and even research when looking at collectible crystals for yourself -

✨ The size of a certain crystal can be a factor as to whether it’s considered a collectible piece and can vary depending on the crystal type.

✨ larger pieces have been around for a lot longer so to find a larger piece in a specific crystal can be an amazing investment. While smaller crystals depending on the stone itself might be of the rarer variety or the quality is outstanding, therefore it’s amazing it was even found.

✨ If it is a fragile and delicate crystal and has not sustained any damage or minor damage.

✨ Quality of course comes into it as you can have some amazing fluorite and then you have some beautiful gem like Fluorite which is quite rare, especially Blue Fluorite

✨ Specific crystals formed and still on their matrix opposed to polished and carved pieces etc of the same crystal. This can be the game changer between an incredible piece and a collectible piece.

In the end it comes down to what you are drawn too and what is drawn to you. The bonus is when you buy a collectible crystal it becomes a physical investment and will only grow in value in the years to come.
