Fluorite is calcium fluoride and belongs to the cubic crystal system. One of its most fascinating characteristics is its ability to develop distinct colour zoning as the crystal grows. Changes in the conditions surrounding its formation, together with trace elements and structural variations within the crystal, can produce successive layers of colour. When this material is cut and polished, those growth zones are revealed as the incredible bands we see running through these palmstones.
