At first glance, the transparency immediately stands out. Turn the sphere through the light, however, and an entire internal landscape begins to reveal itself. Fine veils, wispy inclusions and natural internal fractures travel through the Quartz, accompanied by spectacular flashes of rainbow colour that appear and disappear as the viewing angle changes.

These rainbows are not colour contained within the Quartz itself. They are optical effects created when light interacts with microscopic internal fractures, separating white light into its component colours in much the same way as a prism. This is why a rainbow may suddenly blaze into view from one direction and completely disappear when the sphere is moved only slightly.
