Elite Shungite comes from one of the rarest forms of Shungite, distinguished by its exceptionally high carbon content and distinctive metallic silver sheen. Unlike the more common matte black varieties, Elite Shungite displays a reflective graphite-like surface created by the dense concentration of carbon within the stone. This quality is far less abundant and typically occurs in small natural fragments rather than large masses, which is why Elite Shungite is considered the highest grade of this remarkable material.
Shungite forms exclusively in the Karelia region of Russia near Lake Onega and dates back roughly two billion years. That age places its formation during one of the most fascinating chapters in Earth’s history, when the planet itself was undergoing enormous atmospheric and biological changes.

In certain samples, researchers have identified trace amounts of fullerene molecules which are hollow carbon structures shaped somewhat like tiny soccer balls.

Their discovery inside natural Shungite samples caused significant excitement when they were first identified, because scientists had previously believed these structures were mostly created in laboratories or formed in space.
