🔮 Libyan Desert Glass: The Stone of Cosmic Connection

💛 Solar Plexus Chakra

There could hardly be a more fitting form for Libyan Desert Glass than the scarab.

These beautiful scarabs have been individually carved from genuine Libyan Desert Glass, with each piece displaying the soft golden yellow to champagne colouring and natural translucency characteristic of this extraordinary material. We selected three in different sizes from one of our trusted suppliers, and the quality of the carving immediately stood out to us. Of all the Libyan Desert Glass scarabs we have come across, these are some of the best carved we have seen.

The detail is exceptional for carvings of this size. Defined wing cases sweep across the back, with finely cut lines following their shape, while the head, legs and smaller anatomical details have been carefully worked into the glass. Each remains slightly different due to the natural shape, clarity, inclusions and character of the individual piece of Libyan Desert Glass from which it was carved.

Libyan Desert Glass is a rare natural glass found across a remote region of the Great Sand Sea of western Egypt, close to the Libyan border. It formed approximately 29 million years ago during an extraordinary high-temperature event, although the precise mechanism behind its formation has been debated for decades. Current research strongly links its formation to the extreme heat associated with a meteorite impact.

The connection with ancient Egypt makes the scarab form especially meaningful. Libyan Desert Glass was used by the ancient Egyptians, with perhaps the best-known example being the carved scarab forming the centrepiece of a pectoral found among the burial goods of Tutankhamun.

In ancient Egyptian culture, the scarab was associated with Khepri, the rising sun, and became a powerful symbol of rebirth, renewal, transformation and the continual return of life. Scarab amulets were worn and carried for protection and good fortune and were also placed with the deceased.

Metaphysically, Libyan Desert Glass is often associated with transformation, personal strength, confidence and manifestation. Combined with the ancient symbolism of the scarab, these little carvings carry a rather wonderful theme of transformation, renewal and moving forward.

Ancient natural glass, an ancient Egyptian symbol, and genuinely beautiful carving. These three were an easy yes for us. 💛
