We had the opportunity to have first pick of these incredible shark carvings, and Niome and I took full advantage of it. Each shark was individually hand selected by us for its carving, natural patterning and overall character, and these guys certainly did not disappoint.
Carved with a long, streamlined body, defined fins and that unmistakable shark profile, this Moss Agate shark has a wonderful sense of movement even when sitting still. The sweeping tail, dorsal fin and beautifully shaped body give the carving plenty of presence, making it a fantastic display piece for anyone with a love of sharks and marine life.
The natural Moss Agate adds another dimension to the carving, with deep forest greens, softer grey-green areas and contrasting white patterning moving throughout the body. Moss Agate is a variety of Chalcedony known for its natural mineral inclusions, which can create branching, moss-like and landscape-style formations within the stone. In a carving of this size, those patterns become part of the shark itself, ensuring no two could ever look quite the same.
Sharks have inhabited Earth's oceans for hundreds of millions of years, surviving enormous changes to the planet and evolving into some of the ocean's most successful predators. They are powerful, highly adapted animals that have long fascinated people for their strength, movement and unmistakable presence.
