If you’re a collector of fossils, lover of sharks or just like collecting cool things… this might be just what you are looking for.
The ancient Megalodon probably most known for the funny B rated movies like Meg that left us laughing but also made us do some strange actions on the couch jerking our feet out of the imaginary water whilst watching this classic movie.
Honestly, I can’t get enough of shark movies regardless of the corny ratings they may be given… and please take a moment for Niome who is not quite the fan as I am 😊
Alright now back to these amazing monsters of the sea who lived approx. 17 million of years ago with the largest known size of these sea beauties at just over 20metres long. However to truly know all possible sizes of these amazing creatures is anyone’s guess. To say they are extinct would also be impossible as we have only discovered approx. 5% of the ocean, so who knows what’s lurking in the depths of the world’s waters!! Ok I’m a believer that anything is possible until it’s not.
The Megalodon is known to be the largest shark predator to date and its daily consumption of food was not your usual rainy day/Netflix eating chips on the couch, but a little more than that. In fact, its daily food intake was said to be 2500 pounds of food and estimated to have weighed around 100 tonnes or 100 average size cars weight.
Its jaws could open so wide that 2 humans standing could fit comfortably in its mouth and be swallowed whole. The Megalodons favourite snacks were whales, dolphins, seals, and most likely other sharks if they got in their way.
Now if you can imagine a car being crushed at a wrecker’s yard and then think about a Megalodons bite power, it’s been said that it’s the same. The Megalodons force of power could crush a single car with its brute force. As I write this I ponder at the sheer size of this extraordinary sea creatures.
If you want to have a little think about a standard size Television remote or even pick one up whilst you are reading this, then this to date is about the largest length Megalodon tooth that has been found in the waters off the coast of Florida and now housed in a museum.

A piece that you may see today for a certain price may be a completely different price in 5-10 years’ time as everything comes to an end at some point, even certain varieties of crystals. This has been said to both Niome and myself from various friends within the industry and we have taken note.
Then there are crystals that have a delicate structure like Scolecite with their acicular fine needles shooting out from their matrix. Such delicate specimens and when you think about first the care within the handling that’s gone into first mining them, to then shipping them all around the world, my hat goes off to them.

Here are a few things to consider and even research when looking at collectible crystals for yourself -
- The size of a certain crystal can be a factor as to whether it’s considered a collectible piece and can vary depending on the crystal type.
- larger pieces have been around for a lot longer so to find a larger piece in a specific crystal can be an amazing investment. While smaller crystals depending on the stone itself might be of the rarer variety or the quality is outstanding, therefore it’s amazing it was even found.
- If it is a fragile and delicate crystal and has not sustained any damage or minor damage.
- Quality of course comes into it as you can have some amazing fluorite and then you have some beautiful gem like Fluorite which is quite rare, especially Blue Fluorite
- Specific crystals formed and still on their matrix opposed to polished and carved pieces etc of the same crystal. This can be the game changer between an incredible piece and a collectible piece.
In the end it comes down to what you are drawn too and what is drawn to you. The bonus is when you buy a collectible crystal it becomes a physical investment and will only grow in value in the years to come.
