Exquisite Multicoloured Octahedral Fluorite with Purple, Green and Blue Hues – A Rare Collector's Masterpiece

This exceptional Fluorite specimen comes from Wuyi, Zhejiang Province, China, and is a remarkable example of the mineral specimens for which this region has become known.

What immediately sets this piece apart is its size and extraordinary crystal coverage. The specimen rises in an almost sculptural formation, densely covered with generations of intergrown Fluorite crystals from top to bottom. Larger geometric crystals are surrounded and partially overlapped by smaller formations, creating incredible depth and texture across the entire display face.

Under normal lighting, the Fluorite presents predominantly in deep smoky green, charcoal and dark purple tones, with subtle flashes of colour appearing along crystal edges and more translucent areas. Introduce a strong light behind the crystals and an entirely different side is revealed, with beautiful rich purple colour glowing from within.

This contrast is one of our favourite characteristics of the specimen. At first glance it appears dark, dramatic and almost metallic in places, yet the transmitted light reveals just how much colour is held within the Fluorite.

Looking closely, many of the crystal faces display fascinating surface texture and evidence of continued mineral growth. The overlapping and intergrown crystals give the specimen an almost architectural appearance, with each section revealing another layer of formation.

The reverse has been left largely in its natural state, exposing the pale host matrix and providing an excellent view of how the Fluorite developed across the original rock rather than presenting simply as an isolated group of crystals.

Wuyi County in Zhejiang is an important Chinese mineral locality and is particularly known amongst mineral enthusiasts for Fluorite specimens displaying strong colour, distinctive crystal habits and complex growth.

Finding a Wuyi Fluorite specimen with this combination of substantial size, extensive crystal coverage, strong internal colour and overall presence is considerably less common, making this a particularly impressive example for a serious mineral collection.

Displayed on its custom stand, the specimen can be appreciated as a complete natural formation while still allowing the individual crystal structures to be examined closely.

A remarkable Chinese Fluorite specimen where the scale is impressive from across the room, but the real fascination begins when you get close enough to explore the crystals themselves.

Such delicate specimens and when you think about first the care within the handling that’s gone into first mining them, to then shipping them all around the world, my hat goes off to them.

Here are a few things to consider and even research when looking at collectible crystals for yourself -

The size of a certain crystal can be a factor as to whether it’s considered a collectible piece and can vary depending on the crystal type.

larger pieces have been around for a lot longer so to find a larger piece in a specific crystal can be an amazing investment. While smaller crystals depending on the stone itself might be of the rarer variety or the quality is outstanding, therefore it’s amazing it was even found.

If it is a fragile and delicate crystal and has not sustained any damage or minor damage. 

Quality of course comes into it as you can have some amazing fluorite and then you have some beautiful gem like Fluorite which is quite rare, especially Blue Fluorite

Specific crystals formed and still on their matrix opposed to polished and carved pieces etc of the same crystal. This can be the game changer between an incredible piece and a collectible piece.

In the end it comes down to what you are drawn too and what is drawn to you. The bonus is when you buy a collectible crystal it becomes a physical investment and will only grow in value in the years to come.
