Silver & Gemstone Care
DIVINE CRYSTAL HEART
Practical care for the silver you love and the stones it holds.
A LITTLE CARE GOES A LONG WAY
Sterling silver is 92.5% silver, blended with other metals for strength. It can still scratch, bend and tarnish, while each gemstone has its own care needs. Check your product listing for the metal, finish and stone in your piece.
Everyday wear
Remove your jewellery before showering, swimming, using a spa, cleaning, gardening or working out. Keep them away from bleach, perfume, lotions and other chemicals. Heavy lifting and hard knocks can bend silver or damage a gemstone and its setting.
Cleaning your silver
After wear, wipe your jewellery with a soft, dry cloth. For plain, polished sterling silver, use a silver polishing cloth gently, keeping it away from gemstones. Avoid silver dips, toothpaste, abrasive scrubs, steam and ultrasonic cleaners for gemstone jewellery unless a jeweller has confirmed they are suitable for that exact piece.
Tarnish & darker details
Tarnish is a normal surface reaction; genuine sterling silver can darken over time. Humidity, perspiration and chemicals can speed it up. Some designs also have deliberately darkened details. Avoid polishing these areas, or plated finishes, as you may remove the finish.
Care for the gemstone, too
A silver cleaner may be unsuitable for the stone it surrounds. Keep gemstone rings away from prolonged heat and strong sunlight, and avoid soaking them without checking the stone’s care needs. Lapis Lazuli, Moonstone, Opal, Turquoise and Fluorite deserve particular care. If you are unsure how to clean your piece, ask us first.
Storage & settings
Store jewellery separately to prevent scratches, with the silver dry and protected in a soft pouch or jewellery box. Take rings off by holding the band rather than pulling on the stone. If a stone moves or a claw catches, stop wearing the ring and contact us so the setting can be checked.
Energetic cleansing: If this is part of your practice, sound or intention offers a way to cleanse your jewellery without soaking it in water, covering it in salt or leaving it in strong sunlight.
A note on different finishes
Check your individual product listing before cleaning. Polished sterling silver, plated jewellery and deliberately oxidised details need different treatment. If you have a known sensitivity to a particular metal, ask us about the piece before purchasing rather than assuming every alloy is the same.
Natural inclusions and variations are part of many gemstones. If you notice a new chip, a loose stone or a change you are concerned about, please contact us with a photo before attempting a repair.
