An exceptional large-scale female body carving created from natural Red Agate from Hebei, China. At approximately 30 cm tall and weighing an impressive 6.4 kg, this is a substantial piece with both beautiful natural stone character and considerable presence.

The female form has been beautifully sculpted, with flowing contours through the shoulders, waist and hips creating a strong yet graceful silhouette. Rather than overpowering the natural material, the carving allows the Agate itself to become part of the form.

Across the body are incredible natural variations of earthy red, russet, warm brown, cream and softer translucent areas, with swirling patterns and changes in depth moving throughout the stone. From different angles, entirely new sections of the Agate come into view, particularly across the torso and lower body.

This piece comes from a carver whose work Niome and I already know well. We have purchased several of his female body carvings previously, and his ability to work with the natural shape, colour and character of the stone is one of the reasons we continue to seek out his work when we return to China.

Agate is a variety of chalcedony within the Quartz family and has been used for decorative objects and carvings for thousands of years. Metaphysically, Red Agate is traditionally associated with grounding, strength, confidence and stability.

With its 6.4 kg weight, impressive 30 cm height, beautiful Hebei Agate and exceptional sculptural work, this is a true statement carving designed to be displayed and appreciated from every angle.

I lost my dad two years ago and have been struggling with his loss and my grief.
