🔮 Blue Moonstone: The Celestial Dreamweaver

💙💜 Third Eye & Crown Chakras

This beautiful Blue Moonstone Dragon Turtle came from the same small specialist stall in China where we discovered our Tanzanian Rainbow Sunstone and Black Moonstone Dragon Turtle and Auralite 23 Pixiu. The collection on the table was surprisingly small, but the quality and individuality of the pieces were extraordinary. It became one of those stalls where we found ourselves looking at everything twice.

And this was one we certainly weren't leaving behind.

Carved from Blue Moonstone, this larger Dragon Turtle has a soft white to translucent body with an incredible blue flash that moves across the stone as the carving is turned beneath the light. At some angles it appears almost pearly and quiet, then suddenly sections ignite with cool electric blue.

That changing optical effect is one of the defining attractions of quality Moonstone.

Moonstone belongs to the feldspar mineral group, and its characteristic glow is known as adularescence. Rather than being a surface coating or added effect, the flash is produced as light interacts with microscopic structures within the feldspar. The result is that beautiful floating light that seems to move from within the stone itself.

Across this carving you can also see natural internal lines, textures and subtle variations in translucency. Rather than detracting from the piece, they give you a glimpse into the structure of the material and make the flashes of blue even more interesting as the light travels across different sections.

The carving itself makes wonderful use of the stone. The broad shell provides a large polished surface for the flash to travel across, while the dragon head, legs, tail and shell detailing bring definition and character to the piece. Turn it over and there is even more carving beneath, something we always appreciate in a piece designed to be viewed from every angle.

In Chinese culture, the Dragon Turtle, or Longgui (龙龟), combines the qualities of two important auspicious creatures. The Dragon traditionally represents strength, success, authority and good fortune, while the Turtle is associated with longevity, stability and endurance. Together, they have become a Feng Shui symbol connected with protection, prosperity, career success and creating strong foundations for the future.

Moonstone adds another layer to that symbolism.

Metaphysically, Blue Moonstone is traditionally associated with intuition, emotional awareness, inner reflection and new beginnings. It is often connected with the Third Eye and Crown Chakras and chosen during periods of transition when trusting your own instincts becomes particularly important.

There is also something rather perfect about pairing Moonstone with the Dragon Turtle. One carries this beautiful association with intuition and change, while the other represents strength, longevity and stability. Movement without losing your foundations.

For us, however, this will always be one of the pieces from that tiny stall in China that completely took our breath away.

A small collection, an exceptional vendor, and three pieces that reminded us exactly why we love searching for the unusual ones. 🐉🐢💙✨

🐉🐢 Dragon Turtle (Long Gui)

The Dragon Turtle is a known creature in classical feng shui, combining the strength and courage of the dragon with the endurance and stability of the turtle. Together, they symbolise success achieved through wisdom, protection, and perseverance. Traditionally placed to attract prosperity and support long-term growth, the Dragon Turtle represents ambition grounded by discipline and the balance of power and patience that ensures success endures.
