There is something particularly captivating about exceptionally clear Quartz when nature has left an entire little world suspended inside it, and this beautiful Brazilian sphere is a wonderful example.

The Quartz itself has impressive transparency, allowing you to look deeply into the sphere and appreciate its internal landscape from multiple angles. Sweeping natural veils and fine internal fractures move through the crystal, accompanied by flashes of rainbow refraction that appear as the sphere is turned through the light.

Then there is its gorgeous little floating garden.

Scattered through the lower portion of the sphere are natural green mineral inclusions with the mossy, branching appearance associated with Garden Quartz. Some gather into tiny clusters while others appear almost weightless, suspended within areas of beautifully clear crystal. Their placement creates wonderful depth, as though a miniature landscape formed inside the Quartz and was sealed there during its growth.

Garden Quartz is a descriptive trade term used for Quartz containing scenic natural inclusions. These may include chlorite, iron oxides, clay minerals and other mineral material. Without laboratory analysis we cannot confidently identify the exact composition of these green inclusions, but visually they create the distinctive garden-like formations for which included Quartz is so loved.

Quartz is crystalline silicon dioxide, SiO₂, and belongs to the trigonal crystal system. During crystal growth, mineral material and changes within the growing environment can become enclosed within the Quartz, preserving a tiny geological record of the conditions surrounding its formation.

The internal fractures add another dimension. When light reaches these microscopic structures it can separate into spectral colours, producing the little rainbows visible throughout the sphere. Move it slightly and one disappears while another suddenly comes to life.

What makes this sphere particularly special is the contrast. There is enough clarity to see right through the Quartz, yet enough natural internal character to make you want to keep turning it around and investigating what is happening inside.

Traditionally, Clear Quartz is associated with clarity, intention and amplification, while Garden Quartz is connected with growth, grounding and our relationship with the natural world.

🔮 Spheres

There is something about a beautifully polished sphere that allows you to appreciate a crystal from every angle.

Unlike a point or freeform, a sphere has no obvious front or back. Its rounded form allows the natural patterns, banding, inclusions, colour changes and internal features of the stone to continue around the entire piece, often revealing something completely different each time it is turned.

For collectors, spheres can be an incredible way to showcase the geology of a material. Highly included Quartz can become a miniature landscape, Fluorite can reveal layers of colour and zoning, while Agates and Jaspers can display patterns that wrap continuously around the stone.

The sphere itself has been used symbolically across many cultures, representing wholeness, unity, harmony and completeness due to its continuous form.

Metaphysically, crystal spheres are traditionally believed to radiate their energy evenly in all directions, making them popular for placing within a room, meditation space or crystal display. Smaller spheres can also be held comfortably in the palm during meditation or quiet reflection.

Whether chosen for its mineralogy, natural beauty, symbolism or simply because you cannot stop turning it around to see what is on the other side, a sphere is one of our favourite ways to experience a crystal.
