🔮 Crazy Lace Agate: The Stone of Inner Joy
🩵💙 Throat & Third Eye Chakras
We had the opportunity to have first pick of this incredible collection of shark carvings, and Niome and I carefully chose each one for its stone, carving and overall character. This Mexican Crazy Lace Agate Hammerhead was an easy choice, with incredible natural patterning running from its distinctive head right through the body, fins and tail.
The carving captures the unmistakable shape of a Hammerhead Shark, particularly that extraordinary wide head that makes these sharks instantly recognisable. Its sweeping body, prominent dorsal fin and curved tail give the piece a wonderful sense of movement, while its substantial size allows the natural detail within the Agate to really be appreciated.
Mexican Crazy Lace Agate is known for its intricate bands, loops and swirling formations, and this piece has plenty to look at. Layers of cream, grey, white and warm earthy brown twist across the carving in fine lace-like patterns, with some areas forming beautiful concentric and fortification-style bands. The polished finish brings those natural formations right to the surface.
Crazy Lace Agate is a variety of banded Chalcedony most famously associated with Mexico. Its complex patterning developed through repeated stages of silica deposition, creating the wonderfully busy formations that have made the material so recognisable.
Hammerhead Sharks are among the most distinctive sharks in the ocean. Their unusual head shape, known as a cephalofoil, gives them a wider distribution of sensory organs and contributes to their highly specialised ability to detect and locate prey. It is an extraordinary natural adaptation and one of the features that makes Hammerheads so fascinating.
For the shark lover, this is an absolute standout. The dramatic Hammerhead profile combined with the intricate natural patterning of Mexican Crazy Lace Agate makes this a carving that looks interesting from every angle, and one we were very happy to have first pick of.
