Simplicity meets elegance in these beautiful Nanhong Agate beaded necklaces, but finding them was anything but simple. 😂

The story begins on our first hunt through one of our new buying grounds in China.

Imagine a long pathway stretching ahead of you, lined on both sides with what seemed like endless tables. And everywhere we looked... red.

Red beads. Red bracelets. Red necklaces. Strands upon strands of beautiful red stone in every size and form imaginable.

As we got closer, we realised we had stumbled into Nanhong Agate heaven. ❤️

Naturally, the excitement levels went up considerably.

So began the investigation. 😂 We worked our way along the tables one by one, looking closely at bead quality, colour, translucency, consistency and pricing, while chatting with the different vendors and gathering as much information as we could.

By the time we reached the end, we'd learned plenty.

Had we actually chosen our beads?

Of course not. 🤣

There were simply too many options, so we took everything we'd learned with us and continued our search. Our mission was to find that beautiful balance between quality and price that allows us to bring home pieces we're genuinely happy to put the Divine Crystal Heart name behind.

And eventually, after all that investigating, comparing and contemplating, we went back to the vendor we'd purchased our Nanhong Agate from on our previous trip.

Turns out the answer had been sitting in front of us all along. 😂

And here they are.

Each strand is approximately 68 cm long and made from beautiful 4.5 mm Nanhong Agate beads. We particularly loved the quality of these beads, with their rich natural red colouring and areas of beautiful translucency that become more noticeable as the beads catch the light.

Nanhong Agate is a highly regarded Chinese Agate traditionally associated with regions of southwestern China, particularly Sichuan and Yunnan. It has a long history within Chinese jewellery and carving, valued for its distinctive reds that can range from softer orange-reds through to deeper, richer tones.

There is also something beautifully uncomplicated about this particular design. No large centrepiece and nothing competing with the stone. Just row after row of petite Nanhong Agate beads allowing the colour and natural variation to speak for themselves.

And then our vendor showed us something we hadn't necessarily considered.

These have been strung on stretchy elastic, so while they make a beautiful long necklace, they can also be wrapped several times around the wrist and worn as a layered bracelet.

Sometimes the simplest pieces are the ones you reach for the most.

And after walking past what felt like an entire sea of red Nanhong Agate to find these, we're rather glad we trusted where our search had started in the first place. ❤️✨
