Our final Ocean Jasper shark from this collection, and once again the natural stone has given this carving a personality entirely of its own.

Niome and I had first pick of these sharks in China, which meant we could choose the individual carvings where the colour, pattern and shape of the stone worked particularly well together. This one immediately stood apart because of its beautiful warm colouring.

Soft dusty pinks, earthy reds and muted burgundy tones flow through much of the body, broken by creamy natural markings and subtle areas of green and golden brown around the head and fins. The variation becomes especially interesting towards the shark’s face, where several colours come together within the stone.

The carving has a classic streamlined shark profile, with a strong dorsal fin, defined pectoral fins, sculpted gill detail and an upturned tail that gives the piece a wonderful sense of movement. Its polished surface brings out the natural patterns while still allowing the shark itself to remain the focus.

Ocean Jasper is a patterned variety of Chalcedony from Madagascar and is known for its incredible natural variation. Some material displays orbicular formations, while other pieces show banding, mottling, colour zoning and sweeping changes in pattern.

For the shark lover, this is a particularly striking display piece. Its warm colouring is quite different from the greens and deeper tones seen in our other Ocean Jasper sharks, making this final hand-selected carving very much its own individual piece.

Spiritually, the shark symbolises instinct, resilience, confidence and forward momentum. 🦈

As a creature constantly attuned to its surroundings, the shark represents trusting your intuition, recognising opportunities and moving through life with purpose rather than hesitation. Its ancient survival also makes it a powerful symbol of adaptability, endurance and having the courage to navigate changing waters.
