🔮 Silver Sheen Obsidian: The Shining Mandala of Inner Alchemy
❤️ Root Chakra
With its deep black colouring and beautiful silvery movement beneath the surface, Silver Sheen Obsidian is particularly striking when carved. As the stone is turned through the light, areas that initially appear almost black can reveal soft silver-grey reflections, giving each tortoise its own individual pattern and character.
Silver Sheen Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass formed when silica-rich lava cools rapidly, leaving insufficient time for a conventional crystalline structure to develop. Its distinctive sheen is created by microscopic structures within the Obsidian that interact with light, producing the silvery effect visible across the polished surface.
The tortoise is one of the world’s oldest symbolic animals and is especially significant throughout Asian cultures. In Chinese tradition, the tortoise is associated with longevity, wisdom, endurance, stability and protection. Its long lifespan and protective shell helped establish it as a symbol of strength that comes through patience and resilience rather than force.
This symbolism pairs beautifully with Silver Sheen Obsidian. Within crystal traditions, Obsidian has long been associated with grounding, protection and self-reflection, while Silver Sheen Obsidian is often chosen for clarity, insight and looking beneath the surface of a situation.
Each carving will naturally vary in its silver sheen, patterning and intensity, with the effect changing depending on the direction and strength of the light.
A beautiful combination of volcanic geology and ancient symbolism, representing longevity, protection, patience and the quiet strength to keep moving forward. 🐢🖤✨
