This carving really allows Tiger’s Eye to do what it does best. The sweeping nine tails create broad, flowing surfaces for the stone’s natural golden chatoyancy to travel across, changing beautifully as the carving is viewed from different angles.

The Nine-Tailed Fox is an ancient figure within East Asian mythology, including Chinese tradition where the Jiǔwěihú has appeared in stories for more than two thousand years. Associated with intelligence, transformation, intuition and feminine power, the development of nine tails traditionally represents a fox that has reached an extraordinary level of wisdom and spiritual ability.

Here, the fox sits proudly beneath an impressive fan of individually carved tails. Each tail has been detailed with feather-like flowing lines, creating wonderful movement throughout the carving. The natural bands of golden, caramel and deep brown Tiger’s Eye work beautifully with the design, particularly where the silky flash follows the curves of the stone.
