This beautiful Trolleite carving depicts a mother owl perched closely beside her young, creating a wonderful scene of protection, guidance and connection between the two.

The detail throughout the carving is exceptional. Individual feathers have been carefully defined across their faces, chests and wings, with the mother’s long layered wing sweeping down beside the smaller owl. The young owl sits tucked closely against her, giving the carving a lovely protective feeling and making the name Under My Wing particularly fitting.

The natural colouring of the Trolleite works beautifully with the design. Soft aqua and blue move through areas of cream, grey and subtle mauve-purple, with the variations in the stone naturally highlighting different sections of the feathering and facial detail. No additional colour was needed here. The stone has done a pretty wonderful job of that itself.

Trolleite is a phosphate mineral that can occur in association with minerals including Lazulite, Scorzalite and Quartz. Material used for Trolleite carvings can contain a natural mixture of associated minerals, contributing to the varied blue, grey, cream and purple colouring seen throughout the stone.

Owls have long been associated with wisdom, knowledge, intuition and the ability to see beyond what is immediately apparent. The mother and young together add another layer of symbolism, representing maternal protection, nurturing, guidance and the passing of wisdom from one generation to the next.

In many owl species, the female remains particularly close to the nest and young during their earliest stages, brooding and protecting the chicks while the male provides much of the food. As the young develop, both parents can contribute to their care. That natural behaviour makes the relationship represented in this carving particularly appropriate.

Metaphysically, Trolleite is associated with intuition, inner awareness, calm and spiritual connection, pairing beautifully with the traditional symbolism of the owl.

There is something very gentle about this one. A mother keeping her little one close, guiding and protecting it until it is ready to spread its own wings. 💙🦉
